Solution by Dr Rick.

Marble is often stone
By chisels carved carefully graven
Marble is strong but not alive
The box can be a masterpiece
The hand is carving
In the single block
Until the box is sane
The work is nice, full of beauty
All made from living memory
And left for our posterity
