Hard on portside

Two squares and two diagonals. Two areas are given. What is the total area?

Scroll down for a solution to this problem.

Solution

The total area is 54.

Solution by John Michael.

This solution makes use of the fact that the quadrilateral in the upper right corner, representing 1/4 of the total, is cyclic. Therefore the green and red triangle are similar.
